Combine an active morning at Hell’s Gate National Park with a change of perspective on Lake Naivasha. This one day trip from Nairobi includes guided recreational cycling on approved park routes, lunch and a standard boat outing on the lake. Private road transport connects the experiences and returns you to Nairobi that evening.
The itinerary concentrates on one Naivasha area circuit. There is no additional Lake Nakuru visit and no separate Crescent Island walking programme. Your guide sets the cycling distance around your ability and current conditions, with time for the surrounding rock formations and any wildlife encountered along the route.

Early departure into the Rift Valley
Leave the agreed Nairobi collection point at approximately 6:30 am and travel toward Naivasha. A short escarpment viewpoint stop may be made where traffic, visibility and safe access allow. Continue to Hell’s Gate with a comfort break arranged on the journey.
At the park, complete admission and meet the local activity guide. Check the hired bicycle and helmet before beginning the ride, and agree a comfortable distance for the group.
Guided Hell’s Gate cycling
Cycle on the approved route at a pace that allows stops for scenery and explanation. Your guide introduces the rock formations and the park environment, while maintaining the distance and instructions required around any wildlife. This is recreational cycling on park tracks rather than a technical mountain biking session.
If cycling is unsuitable, a vehicle based park visit can be agreed before booking as an alternative to the ride. The standard programme does not include a gorge descent, rock climbing or entry into restricted sections.
Lunch near Lake Naivasha
Finish the morning activity and travel to the confirmed lunch venue in the Naivasha area. Enjoy the included meal and a pause before the lake outing. There is no hotel check in because the excursion returns to Nairobi on the same day.
Your driver coordinates the afternoon with the boat operator, allowing the lake visit to proceed when local conditions are suitable.
Lake boat outing and return
Join the arranged standard boat trip with a life jacket and the operator’s briefing. Look for waterbirds and observe the shoreline and any hippos from an appropriate distance. The outing is expected to take roughly an hour, with its actual route and duration set by conditions on the day.
If the operator cannot run the boat safely, an alternative lakeside activity or the treatment of the unused service is agreed rather than guaranteeing a departure. Begin the private drive back to Nairobi for an expected drop off around 5:30 pm. Boat exclusivity, Crescent Island entry and extra lake activities are not included.
Know before you go
This is a one day excursion with no overnight accommodation. The planning window is approximately 6:30 am to 5:30 pm and the total duration is approximately 11 hours. Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours each way between Nairobi and the Naivasha area before activity time and stops. Times include neither a guarantee of traffic conditions nor a fixed wildlife viewing schedule; your collection and expected return are confirmed for your hotel and travel date.
Private transport means that your road vehicle and driver guide serve your party. Public attractions, museum galleries and scheduled host presentations may also welcome other visitors. Cycling routes and lake operations depend on current access and conditions. The standard itinerary does not promise a gorge descent.
Cycling requires basic riding ability on uneven tracks. Tell us about children’s ages and equipment needs before confirmation. A vehicle alternative to cycling must be agreed in advance.
Provide each traveller’s age, nationality, residency category and any dietary or mobility requirements before quotation. Included fees are calculated from those details, and no price is published until the trip is quoted. The road vehicle is private; the standard boat outing may be shared. Wildlife sightings, weather and mountain views cannot be guaranteed. Avoid planning a tight onward flight around the estimated return time.
