About this safari
Elephants, lakeside scenery and wide savannahs give this 6 day Kenya family safari three distinct chapters. Start with two nights in Amboseli, pause at Lake Naivasha, then spend two nights in the Masai Mara. The two longer wildlife stays create time to revisit habitats and follow animal behaviour instead of treating every destination as a quick stop.
Amboseli is particularly rewarding for observing elephant families, with Mount Kilimanjaro sometimes visible when clouds clear. Naivasha breaks the journey across Kenya and provides a quieter afternoon between major safari areas. In the Mara, a full wildlife day leaves room to explore beyond the first game drive and respond to your children’s curiosity.
This is a private road safari in lodge and permanent tented accommodation. The Amboseli to Naivasha transfer is a substantial journey and is described openly in the daily plan. Browse Amboseli National Park, Lake Naivasha and Masai Mara National Reserve, or ask us to adapt the route for your family.
Why travellers choose this journey

Your safari itinerary
Open each day to view the route, activities, meals, transport and accommodation details.
Your driver guide collects you in Nairobi in the morning for the drive toward Amboseli. Begin with a briefing on the safari vehicle, the planned stops and the family’s preferred routine. The road moves from urban surroundings into more open country, with a comfort break arranged before arrival. Lunch is included at an agreed point along the route or at your accommodation.
After check in, an afternoon game drive introduces the park’s open plains and wetland habitats when the entry schedule allows. Look for elephant groups, zebra and other grazers while your guide explains how water shapes animal movements. Kilimanjaro is visible only when weather permits. Return for dinner and the first of two nights in the Amboseli area.
Head out early to explore Amboseli while the air is cooler and animal activity may be more visible. Your guide will seek good viewing positions without disturbing elephant herds, allowing the family to watch feeding, movement and interactions between adults and calves. Other stops may focus on birds, buffalo or the contrast between dry ground and marsh vegetation.
Return to your accommodation for lunch and a midday rest, or agree a packed lunch arrangement if a longer drive works better for your group. An afternoon outing revisits promising areas or explores another part of the park. Mountain views and particular species depend on conditions. The evening is spent at the same lodge or permanent tented camp, with dinner included.
Leave Amboseli after an early breakfast for the journey to Naivasha. This is the longest road section of the safari, travelling through the wider Nairobi area before reaching the Rift Valley. Your driver plans several breaks, and lunch is arranged en route rather than relying on an early hotel arrival. Traffic and road conditions can extend the stated driving estimate.
On reaching Lake Naivasha, check into your hotel or lodge and keep the remaining afternoon unhurried. Relax within the accommodation grounds and enjoy the change from dry savannah to a freshwater lake setting. No boat trip or additional excursion is included today. Families wanting to avoid this long drive can request an extra Nairobi overnight or a revised route during quotation. Dinner is included.
Enjoy breakfast before leaving the Naivasha area for the Masai Mara. Travel through the Rift Valley toward Narok, with time for comfort stops and lunch. Your guide keeps the programme realistic around road conditions so the journey does not become a rush to fit in every possible activity.
Arrive at your Mara accommodation for a two night stay. If there is sufficient time before the reserve closes, begin with a short game drive through nearby habitats. Search for grazing herds and learn how to spot movement among grass and shrubs. If arrival is later, use the afternoon to settle in, with the following day providing the main wildlife experience. Dinner is served at your lodge or permanent tented camp.
Wake for breakfast and prepare for an extended wildlife day in the Masai Mara. With no road transfer to another destination, the guide can shape the route around what your family most enjoys, whether that is elephants, big cats, birds or simply watching the large herds move across the plains. Sightings are approached patiently and within reserve rules.
Packed lunch can be enjoyed at a designated picnic place, or you may prefer a shorter morning outing followed by lodge lunch and a later drive. During the migration season, your guide may look for seasonal herds where they are present, but crossings cannot be promised. Return to the same accommodation for dinner and a final evening discussing your favourite safari moments.
After breakfast, check out and begin the journey back to Nairobi. The return includes sensible comfort breaks, with your driver monitoring traffic and your onward schedule. There is no extra game drive planned this morning, which keeps the final day focused on reaching the city without unnecessary pressure.
At Nairobi, the safari concludes at your hotel or agreed airport terminal. Only breakfast is included on this day, and any lunch, city accommodation or further transfers are separate arrangements. Please provide flight details before booking. If your departure leaves too little room for a road delay, the team can quote a Nairobi overnight or a different final day plan.
